... to the Department of Information Engineering. We have over 100 active researchers including 12 Core ANU Research Staff, a number of ARC Postdocs, NICTA Adjuncts, a large population of PhD Students and a small number of Masters students.

The Department of Information Engineering formed from the merger of Systems Engineering and Telecommunications Engineering in 2004 coinciding with the establishment of the College of Engineering and Computer Science. Systems Engineering dated back to 1980 and Telecommunications Engineering dated back to 1994.

The activities in the department are organized into 4 research groupings. Follow the links to find a more detail list of the research activities and the research staff.

The department has 4 Fellows of the Australian Academy of Science, 3 Fellows of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, 1 Fellow of the Royal Society, 6 Fellows of the IEEE and one Federation Fellow. A past head, Professor Zelinsky, is now Group Executive, Information and Communication Sciences and Technology, and Director, CSIRO Information Communication Tecnology (ICT) Centre and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering. Professor Anderson was a past president of the Australian Academy of Science. Senior staff also hold a number of honorary doctorates, prizes and other distinctions.
